Leave Hazards Behind
We want your belongings to arrive at your new location as it left. This means that certain items must be left behind. Anchor’s staff is trained to look for normal household items that are hazardous and often illegal to freight. Being proactive in the planning process can eliminate the risk for potential damages and save time packing. Listed below are items that cannot be moved:

Flammable Items: Gasoline, propane tanks, lighter fluid, matches, paints, paint thinners, and aerosol cans.

Explosives: Fireworks, ammunition, gunpowder, and other explosives.

Chemicals: Household cleaning supplies like bleach, pool chemicals, pesticides, and fertilizers.
Don't Spoil Your Move
Avoid packing perishable items like food, plants, and liquids that can spoil, spill, or attract pests during the move. Instead, partner with Move for Hunger to reduce food waste.
Move For Hunger is a nonprofit organization that works to combat food waste and hunger by partnering with moving companies. The program collects nonperishable food items from people who are moving and donates them to local food banks.
How It Works:

During the Move: When someone moves, they often have nonperishable food items they no longer want or need. Move For Hunger encourages people to donate this food instead of throwing it away.

Collection: Partner moving companies, like Anchor Moving & Storage, provide free boxes and collect donated food items during the moving process.

Donation: The collected food is delivered to a local food bank or pantry in the area to benefit people in need.

Secure the Valuables
Keep your most valuable and personal items, like jewelry, passports, important documents, and electronics, with you rather than packing them with the rest of your belongings. This ensures they remain safe, easily accessible, and protected from potential loss or damage during the move. By handling these items personally, you’ll have peace of mind throughout the transition.
Know Your Value
Before you move with Anchor, you must decide how much your goods are worth and how much coverage you want. If you do not sign for the coverage you desire on your shipment documents, you will receive the default amount of 60 cents per pound per item.
Anchor provides two options to cover loss or damage to your goods while they are in Anchor’s care, custody and control. The value you select sets our maximum liability. This liability is not an insurance agreement governed by insurance laws. Instead, it is required by federal law for interstate shipments and authorized under rulings of the Surface Transportation Board of the U.S. Department of Transportation.
Full Value Protection, The most comprehensive plan
Lost, damaged or destroyed articles will, at Anchors’ discretion, be either repaired or replaced with articles of like kind and quality. Or, Anchor will issue a cash settlement for repair or replacement of articles at their current value, regardless of their age. Under this option, you have two choices:

Full Value Protection based on weight. This is calculated at $6.00 per pound times the weight of your shipment, with a minimum of $10,000. If your shipment is moving on a binding estimate, the estimated weight determines your amount of coverage.

Lump Sum. You can declare a lump sum amount higher than $6.00 per pound times the weight of your shipment and more than $10,000. For example, you can declare the value of your shipment to be $40,000. The cost for Full Value Protection at $6.00 per pound will be included on your estimate form. To declare a higher value, you must advise your salesperson and sign for the additional coverage, subject to the minimums. For example, if your shipment weighs 4,500 pounds, the minimum value is $27,000 (4,500 pounds multiplied by $6.00 per pound). If you think replacement of all your goods will cost more, you can declare a higher amount based on your estimate. The cost for additional coverage is available on request and will be included in an estimate after you request it. If you do not declare a lump sum value, you will receive the default coverage ($6.00 per pound, minimum $10,000) subject to a charge for the amount, as specified in our tariff.
You also have two deductible options for Full Value Protection: $250 and $500 per shipment. The cost of coverage is less with a deductible and will be shown on your estimate. However, if articles are lost, damaged or destroyed, and the cost to repair or replace them is less than the deductible amount, you will not be reimbursed for them. If the cost to repair or replace items is more than the deductible selected, the amount of the deductible will be deducted from amounts due to you.
Storage-in-Transit
If all or part of your shipment is placed into storage-in-transit, the valuation amount you have selected applies while your shipment is in storage-in-transit. For Full Value Protection, there is an additional valuation charge for each 30-day period (or portion of) that your shipment remains in storage-in-transit. After a specified time (generally 180 days), your shipment will convert to permanent storage. At that time, you will need to arrange with the local agent for continued coverage.
What You Must do to Declare a Value on Your Shipment
The Customer’s Declaration of Value you sign with Anchor contains a place for you to make your valuation selection. If you do not sign for valuation, you will automatically receive and be charged for Full Value Protection ($6.00 per pound, minimum $10,000) with no deductible.
